SMOKEY POINT — Area firefighters touted the importance of working smoke detectors in the wake of a fire that wrought an estimated $30,000 in damages to a mobile home.

Units from the Arlington Fire Department were dispatched at approximately 6:30 a.m. on March 17 to respond to a reported mobile home fire in the 19600 block of Smokey Point Boulevard. After arriving on the scene to find the mobile home partially involved with fire, they were joined by Marysville Fire District 12 and Snohomish County Fire Protection District 19 in Silvana in extinguishing the fire quickly.

The home’s lone occupant, an Arlington man who’s approximately 50 years old, was treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation sustained while he was removing his belongings from the home. He was subsequently transported to Cascade Valley Hospital for further treatment and released. There did not appear to be working smoke detectors in the structure.

“Working smoke detectors are often your first line of defense in a house fire and can save your life and those of your loved ones,” Arlington Fire Chief Bruce Stedman said. “Many citizens are killed or injured by re-entering a smoke-filled home to retrieve belongings. We strongly encourage our residents to keep themselves and their families safe by remaining outside in a safe location until the situation is stabilized by the fire department.”

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
