ARLINGTON – It’s hard to imagine anything more terrifying than a home invasion with masked men battering you with a baseball bat, but that’s reportedly what happened to a man and woman in Arlington recently.

According to Snohomish County sheriff’s reports:

The pair, who aren’t named, were watching TV and taking a bong hit when they saw a car pull up. They thought nothing of it until two men knocked the front door off its hinges and starting beating the man with a bat. The man said he just remembers being told to “stay down and take it.”

The woman, who is only 5-foot, 148 pounds, jumped on one of the attackers. She wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist. She tried to kick, hit, slap or scratch the man any way she could. She tried to kick him in the groin, but was hit with the bat and told not to resist. She held her breath and played dead, reports say.

The attackers soon left and the man in the house started knocking on neighbors’ doors for help. One eventually answered and called 9-1-1. The man went back to the house once police arrived.

The woman said she thinks the men wanted to kill them. She said after she was hit she crawled looking for her phone, and there was blood all over the floor.

The man said he thought there might have been three attackers. He said they were wearing ski masks. He said two men attacked him, and he was holding his own until a third attacker came in and hit him in the head with a bat. He said he just started swinging his fists trying to hit anyone he could while he could feel the blood begin to run down his face, reports say.

Both were taken to Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington with severe injuries.

The couple suspect the home invasion is related to an event the previous month, records say. A childhood friend who was living with them was kicked out for using methamphetamine. The person apparently later came back with two other men. The pair told them to leave. The woman recognized one as being a heroin and meth dealer and a casino worker, reports say. The men told the couple to calm down, they were just interested in investing $5,000 in the man’s marijuana grow operation.

The woman said the man later went to confront the friend at the Tulalip Casino resort where he moved to and was told the friend had $10,000 worth of heroin in his room, reports say.

Evidence found at the scene included a black baseball hat with fake hair attached, a light-blue tie with silver diamonds on it used to cover a face, and Marlboro cigarettes. Neither of the pair smoke that brand. The evidence was being sent to a lab for possible DNA testing.

Officers also found a lamp that was knocked over, a knife with a 6-8 inch blade and pot-smoking devices.

The incident happened Aug. 16 at 6:12 p.m. The attackers fled in a black or green vehicle northbound on 5th Avenue Northeast. A neighbor thought it might be a dark green, four-door Kia Sorrento or another type of SUV.

Two days later, deputies returned after the woman called and said she had found one of the bats used in the attack when she moved a bottom drawer in her kitchen. The bat was 18-inches long, had blood spattered on it and was wrapped in cellophane.

The sheriff’s office investigation continues.
