The Marysville Fire Department was busy responding to fireworks injuries, including a hand amputation, along with brush, tree and grass fires on July 4, while the Arlington department’s numbers were down compared with previous years.
In Arlington, police responded to 13 fireworks-related calls, while the fire department responded to four calls.
“This is way down from previous years,” city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said June 6. “We greatly appreciate all of the community members that heeded our request to attend one of the professional shows.”
Police numbers are still being counted, but the Marysville Fire Department responded to 26 calls in the city, eight in the district and one at Quil Ceda Village on July 4.
The worst was at 51st and 84th where an injured hand had to be amputated, records show. Prior to the 4th, on July 2, a 10-year-old boy suffered burns to his face at Quil Ceda Village. And back on June 5, at 184th and 46th, an injured finger had to be amputated.
There were 17 grass fires, six brush fires and five tree fires. There was a structure fire June 28 in the district at 75th and 27th, a hand injury at 103rd and 27th, and an investigation of kids with fireworks at 7th and 84th.
