The Arlington School Board will be holding a special work session to discuss the possible closure of Trafton Elementary School.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, at the Administration Building (315 N. French Ave.).

The School Board is slated to vote June 14 on whether the 122-year-old school will close in wake of a projected $1.6 million to $1.8 million district budget shortfall.

The school is the oldest continuously operated school in Washington.

School district officials have said that closing the school will save the district approximately $275,000 in operations costs.

On June 2, Trafton was placed on the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation’s “most endangered” properties of 2010.
