ARLINGTON — Walmart submitted a revised design proposal for its 172nd Street project May 11 and it will be reviewed Tuesday, May 19 by the Arlington Planning Commission acting as the Design Review Board.

The original proposal was completed Dec. 13, 2004 and approved Feb. 25, 2005.

The original proposal was for a 203,818 square foot “store of the community,” a program that Walmart was using at the time.

The retail chain has launched a new overall national strategy with a new “spark” logo and complete design change for the exterior of its stores.

The size of the proposed building has been reduced to 161,153 square feet, with less parking, and there will no longer be a 16-pump gas station. The northwest corner of the site will remain vacant at this time, according to planning commission documents.
