TACOMA — Coach Judd Hunter was pleased with Arlington’s first day at the 3A state track meet at Mount Tahoma High School May 26.
“Our hurdles turned out really awesome,” Hunter said. “So we’re going have an exciting day in the hurdle final.”
In the preliminaries, senior Cordell Cummings and junior Sidney Trinidad qualified for the finals in the 110- and 100-meter hurdles respectively.
Sidney placed first with a time of 15.19 seconds. “Sidney ends up being the best out of her division there,” Hunter said.
In the 1600 finals, senior Nathan Beamer finished second with a personal record of four minutes, 12.93 seconds.
“He ran right at his PR; he competed his butt off,” Hunter said. “And that’s about what he has in him so that was a great second-place finish.”
Beamer finished behind Justin Janke of North Central, who championed with a time of 4:07.69.
Beamer was a little disappointed he didn’t get first, but said he gave it his best. “I think I was pretty close. I think there was a couple more things I could’ve done preparation wise,” Beamer said.
Beamer has yet to perform in the 3200. “We’ll see if he can give [Janke] a run for his money in the 3200,” Hunter said.
Also placing in the 1600 finals was senior Marie Gaudin, who was 10th. “She ran hard and gave it everything she had,” Hunter said.
Junior Wyatt Hawthorne placed 12th in the pole vault finals. “Wyatt performed real well,” Hunter said. “For his first time at state, that’s a good showing. He didn’t get too nervous.”
Other notable preliminary performances were: junior Reilly Kesselring, who has been only doing track for eight weeks, placed ninth in the high jump.
