ARLINGTON — A musical comedy inspired by singer Elvis Presley receiving his draft notice in 1958 will be performed by Arlington High School students soon.

The high school’s drama department is putting on a production of “Bye Bye Birdie” starting Nov. 13 at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center at Arlington High School.

“When we select our musicals, I try to find material that entertains audiences of all ages and involves as many students as possible,” drama teacher Scott Moberly said.

The musical follows last year’s production — “Peter Pan” — which sold out nearly each performance, Moberly said.

“The support we get from the community inspires my students to give everything they have to our productions, and this includes those behind the scenes as well as the entire cast,” he said.

The original Tony-award winning musical will take place Nov. 13, Nov. 14, Nov. 20 and Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now for adults ($10), students/seniors ($8) and Golden Eagles ($7) and can be purchased at www.byrnesperformingarts.com or at the door.

“The timing of our show couldn’t be better,” Moberly said. “This is a musical that never gets dated.”
