Born on August 16, 1943 in Bagley, MN to Dorothy and Walter Bergeson, Darwin was the youngest of eight children. He spent his early childhood on the family farm. He graduated from Oakridge High School in 1961 where he had met the love of his life, Paula Lea Hankins,at the tender age of 16. Shortly after graduation, he completed the welding program at Columbia Basin College and moved to Seattle. Darwin and Paula were married in Oakridge, OR on August 24, 1963. He was employed at Lockheed shipyards until 1965, when at the age of 23, he founded
B & B Fabricators. Bergi had two great passions in his life — his family and his business. Darwin was a man of unquestionable integrity and honesty. His word was better than any written contract and his handshake could bring you to your knees. His faith in Christ was an inspiration and clearly guided his life as a husband, father, mentor and employer. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Paula, his sons Brian and fiancé Rocio, Mark and wife Renee, Todd and wife Jody and his daughter Darla and husband Colby Woolman. He was Papa Darlin’ to his grand-babies: Mariah, Aleah, Isaac, Keira, Ethan, Victoria, Christian, Kristina, and John and couldn’t wait to meet his newest grand-baby due in November. He is also survived by four sisters, one brother and countless nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 2 o’clock on Saturday, June 26th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Marysville, WA. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in his name at Seattle Children’s Hospital — a place dear to his heart.
