Ethel I. Kirk, 88, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Marysville, Wash, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2006.
She was born in Dayton, Wash., on Nov. 3, 1918, to Willard E. and Lily I. Greatorex. She was raised in Dayton, and graduated from Dayton High School in 1936.
Her career as a florist spanned over forty years. During her long career, she not only owned shops in Oregon and Washington but was employed by other shops as well.
Ethel married Frederick A. Kirk, in 1937. Their sixty-four year marriage produced six children.
She was preceded in death by her husband and eight siblings.
Survivors include sons Richard L. Kirk of Marysville, Garold E. (Gayle) Kirk of Bellevue, Wash., Michael F. (Shonnie) Kirk of Antigua, Patrick G. Kirk of Yakima, Wash., daughters, Sandra K. (Tom) Roper of Poulsbo, Wash. and Suzanne D. Kirk of Seattle. Also surviving are her sister, Grace James, of Dayton, and brothers, Bill (Barbara) Greatorex of Tacoma, thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Avenue, Maryville. There will be a service held in Dayton, sometime in July, as well.
