ARLINGTON — A horse fell out of a trailer and was dragged for at least two miles, leaving a trail of blood along Grandview Road just east of Arlington.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, that a horse had fallen out of a trailer and died, said Rebecca Hover, public information officer for the sheriff’s department.

There was no sign of foul play, and nobody has been taken into custody as of Monday, June 14, Hover said.

Because no citations were issued, no names were released in connection with the horse’s death. The horse was owned by the driver’s friend, and stayed on her property, Hover said.

Reports from neighbors and eyewitness indicate that a number of residents stopped near the scene to ask what had happened after they had seen trails of blood on Grandview, which is approximately three miles east of Highway 9.

One witness said that she saw one resident outside his home with a bucket of water and a brush scrubbing the county road to remove the blood.

One Grandview resident who lives right in front of where the incident occurred said that the road was still stained with blood and that bits of the horse’s carcass were still lying near the road as of Monday.

Although Hover said that deputies have identified the woman driving the vehicle, the Grandview resident, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, said that that person needs to admit to being negligent.

“Everybody who drives up here is sick to their stomachs,” she said. “Somebody needs to step up and admit to this.”
