MARYSVILLE – Applications are being accepted for the 87th Annual Marysville Strawberry Festival Twilight Grand Parade.

All applications, including commercial and political entries, must be received by May 1.

The parade is set for 7:45 p.m. June 16 along State Avenue, capping weeklong activities that include the festival market at Asbery Field, carnival, kiddies parade, Kids Day, talent show, car show, fashion show, strawberry shortcake eating contest, a beer and wine garden, and live entertainment.

Festival organizer Maryfest Inc. provides two ways to apply. Submit an application online at maryfest.org or download the application and supplemental forms to fill out, also located under “Forms” on the website. Completed applications should be mailed to Maryfest, Attn: Parade, P.O. Box 855, Marysville, WA 98270.

The parade draws a variety of entries ranging from festive, illuminated floats and antique cars to drill teams, marching bands, equestrian and auxiliary units.

Due to time constraints, the parade has a limited number of spots available, so interested parties are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible, festival officials recommend.

In a survey last December done by Maryfest to gather ideas for ways to improve the festival, half the respondents said they preferred a daytime parade, while 37 percent preferred an evening parade. Officials said no changes are planned this year, but some could come in 2019 after organizers poll downtown businesses.
