Airport Appreciation Day

Free flights for youth ages 7-18 are provided by pilots through the Young

Eagles Program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 10 as part of the Arlington Airport Appreciation Day at the Arlington Airport Office, 18204 59th Dr. NE Arlington. Parent permission is required. Along with flights, there are other activities for youth and families including tours of police and fire vehicles, a static aircraft display, face painting and chalk art. Cat show and photo contest

A cat rescue organization in north Snohomish County, Purrfect Pals presents an Average Joe Cat Show and Photo Contest on May 10. A registered 501C3 charitable organization, Purrfect Pals helps more than 4,000 cats annually through adoptions, low-cost spay neuter surgeries, and lifetime sanctuary.

The cat show and photo contest promises a ribbon for every cat, at the Shoreline Center, 18560 First Ave. NE in Shoreline from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10. Admission is $5 per person and $12 per family.

May Hunt with a twist

Vendors for the upcoming May Hunt on Saturday, May 17 are welcome by the Downtown Arlington Business Association, which has redefined the twice-annual treasure hunt to feature new and used items, but not junk, to be located in the newly paved city parking lot adjacent to Legion Park. The event also includes a sidewalk sale where downtown merchants and business owners are encouraged to bring stuff out onto the street for a day of fun on the new Olympic Avenue in downtown Arlington from 9 a.m, to 4 p.m. For information call 360-403-9193.

Farmers’ market opens

n The Haller Point Market at The Village Store, 604 E. Gilman St. in Arlington opened Sunday, May 4 and runs through Oct. 5. The market will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays throughout the summer. Murder With Mom

Northwest writer Jo Dereske, author of the Miss Zukas series, will speak about the lure of the mystery and share secrets on how she creates stories clue by clue at the Arlington Library, 135 N. Washington Ave., in Arlington, at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10. Light refreshments and a question and answer session will follow. Jo’s books will be available for sale and autographing.

Also on Saturday, at 2 p.m. children from 6 to 12 are invited to meet Molly, An American Girl, through stories, crafts and activities from the World War II era. Boys and girls are invited to participate in this celebration based on the American Girl Molly books. Refreshments will be served.

The Arlington Library Book Group is disucssing “Native Son” by Richard Wright at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13. The Book Group meets the second Tuesday of the month; new members are always welcome.
