MARYSVILLE – Leifer Manor has hosted the Fashion Show for the Marysville Strawberry Festival many times over the years. But Tuesday was the last time.
Owner Donna Leifer said she is retiring at the end of the year. Leifer said, “I was born and raised here all my life.” She had hoped someone in her family might want to take it over, but that didn’t happen.
“It’s my last wedding season,” she said, adding she is thinking of writing a book about the manor’s history.
Mayor Jon Nehring honored her with a bouquet of roses at the end of the event.
About 50 people attended the April Friesner Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show. Money raised goes toward royalty scholarships. The royalty of king Nathan Weller and princesses Kaitlyn Norris and Katelynn Melohusky were there, but they weren’t the models. That honor went to local dignitaries, such as the mayor.
Nehring wore an outfit from Penny’s. Emcee Jesica Stickles joked that he was a super model, probably because he only wore that one outfit while the other models did at least double duty. Other “top models” were: Wendy Massarina, Ray Miller, Veronica Love, Art Maldonado, Mary Kirkland and Janet Wicklund McAllister. Ted Wright provided the sound and music. During lunch provided by Bleachers Bar & Grill, Stickles said the fashions are from local stores JC Penny’s, Hilton Pharmacy, Wrenhaven and Coastal Farm.
