MARYSVILLE – Arlington beat Marysville Getchell in boys tennis 4-3 Wednesday.
In singles, Taras McCurdie of Arlington beat Evan Sprague 6-2, 6-3. Eben Heacock of MG beat Toby Johnson 6-1, 7-5. Colby Wagstaff of MG defeated Jacob Bolopue 6-2, 6-2. And Bob Green of MG blanked Trevor Remle 6-0, 6-0.
But Arlington swept the doubles matches with Ben Spores-Ben Nicholas beating Luke Olasan-Walker Braillaird 6-2, 6-2. Keaton McBride-Colby King defeated Gabe Coe-Liam Perkins 6-4, 6-2. And Clayton Blubaugh-Thomas Ramirez bested Ian Crosby-Connor Braillard 6-2, 6-3.
At Stanwood, the home team got by Marysville-Pilchuck 5-2.
Aaron Kalb won his match at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-4 and the No. 1 doubles team of Connor Peterson-Carson Asper won in three tough sets 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-2. Treven Southard battled to a 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 7-5 loss in singles for the Tommies. Kellen Richey also lost in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Cross country
Lakewood’s boys and girls both placed third out of four teams in a cross country meet Wednesday.
Alex Jensen again was the top finisher for the boys, placing fifth in 16 minutes, 56 seconds. Gabe Hatch was ninth in 17:26. Ben Schmidt was 17th, Jesse Stoddard 20th, Joseph Heisley 23rd and Jarron Ransford 24th.
For the girls, Callie Buchanan was sixth in 21 minutes, 7 seconds. Finishing 8th through 10th were Madison Howe, Holly Riley and Alexa Daily. Jaydee Yargus was 13th.
Volleyball
Nooksack Valley beat Lakewood’s girls volleyball team 25-25, 25-13 and 25-22 Wednesday.
Tehanna Goodall had 11 kills, and Kimmy Epperson 22 assists in the loss.
