TACOMA – Julia Parra placed third in state in the discus on opening day of the State 3A Track and Field Championships at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma Thursday.
The Arlington Eagle junior threw sphere 131 feet, 8 inches. The winning throw was 146-1.
In other finals on the first day senior Cade Tucker of Marysville-Pilchuck tied for fifth in the shot put with his throw of 50 feet, 5.5 inches. The winning toss was 58-11.
Arlington’s Joshua Gutierrez was eighth in the triple jump with his mark of 43 feet, 5.5 inches. The winning leap was 47-0.25.
In the portion of the meet, the only local athlete who placed was Lakewood’s Keegan Bach. He was eighth in the shot put with his toss of 49 feet, 1 inch. The winning throw was an impressive 63 feet, 4 inches.
The meet continues today with preliminary running events. Finals are Saturday.
