Election: Arlington mayor’s race still the closest

With the number of votes to count dwindling, the closest race locally is still the one for Arlington mayor.

Incumbent Barb Tolbert’s lead is back down to 35 votes over challenger Don Vanney Jr. Wednesday it was 50.25 percent to 49.45 percent or 2,182 to 2,147.

The only real turnaround came with North County Regional Fire Authority Proposition 1. The levy was failing 1,747 to 1,793, or 49 percent in favor and 51 percent against. on Election Night. Now it is leading by 50 votes, 3,527 to 3,477, or 50.4 to 49.6 percent.

And although the voting has gotten much closer, Arlington’s advisory vote to ban fireworks will likely pass. Wednesday it was 65 votes ahead – the numbers were 2,290 for to 2,225 against, or 51 percent to 49 percent. The fireworks ban had 57 percent approval Election Night.

In other Arlington races, on the City Council incumbent Sue Weiss lost to Michele Blythe 2,224 to 1,720, or 56 percent to 43 percent.

Arlington school board member Jim Weiss’s lead is now staying steady at 51 percent to 48.5 percent over Sheri Kelly, ahead 3,832 to 3,663. 

For North County RFA commissioner, Greg Oakes is way in front of Jeff Sinker 4,084 to 1,971, or 67 percent to 32 percent.

Marysville

Paul Galovin is comfortably in front of Mariana Maksimos 7,986 to 6,810, or 54 percent to 46 percent, in the Marysville school board race, and Kelly Richards was ahead of Jeff Siebert 6,944 to 6,279, or 52 percent to 47 percent, in the council race.

Incumbents were leading easily in the other Marysville races.

For mayor, Jon Nehring was way ahead of Michael Patrick 10,832 to 3,177, or 77 percent to 22.5 percent.

Likewise, Councilman Stephen Muller was way out in front of Katherine Iverson 8,933 to 4,068, or 68 percent to 31 percent.

And for school board incumbent Tom Albright had a big lead over Halleh Stickels 9,522 to 5,496, or 63 percent to 36 percent.

Lakewood

Steven Larson is whipping Jeremy Toponce for school board in the only race here. Larson had 2,009 votes to 1,128 for Toponce, or 63.5 percent to 35.7 percent.

The overall turnout countywide is 42.5 percent, with 202,375 ballots cast out of 475,871 registered voters.
