SMOKEY POINT — With election season well underway, local voters will have two chances to hear from candidates.
Oct. 14 Political Forum
The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce is conducting its traditional Political Forum, Oct. 14, at noon in the Hawthorn Inn and Suites of Smokey Point, where candidates for the 10th and 39th districts will answer pre-submitted questions in a moderated setting.
Incumbent 10th District Democratic Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen and Republican representatives Norma Smith and Barbara Bailey will face Republican challenger Linda Haddon and Democratic challengers Tim Knue and Patricia Terry, respectively. Likewise, incumbent 39th District Republican Sen. Val Stevens and representatives Dan Kristiansen and Kirk Pearson will meet Democratic challengers Fred Walser, Scott Olson and David Personius, respectively.
Candidate-directed questions and luncheon RSVPs should be submitted to the Chamber office no later than Oct. 9. A box for questions will also be available at the luncheon itself, but questions must be submitted to the box no later than noon.
Attendance is $15 for reservations made by Oct. 9, and $20 without reservation or with reservations made after Oct. 9. The Chamber can be reached at 360-659-5453 and is located at 3710 168th St. NE in Arlington.
Oct. 22 Hometown Campaign Forum
Olympic Place Retirement and Assisted Living is conducting a Hometown Campaign Forum
Oct. 22, at 7 p.m., where candidates from many of the state races will meet with seniors and other attendees to answer questions sent via e-mail in advance of the forum.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen and Republican challenger Rick Bart have confirmed their attendance, as has Republican lieutenant governor’s race challenger Marcia McCraw. All of the candidates for the state representative races, the state superintendent of public instruction, state auditor and state treasurer have also confirmed their attendance. The commissioner of public lands candidates, Republican governor’s race challenger Dino Rossi and incumbent Secretary of State Sam Reed will all send surrogates, while Democratic secretary of state’s race challenger Jason Osgood will appear in person.
