Volunteer needed to fill AmeriCorps

Village Community Services has been awarded a full-time AmeriCorps position by the Washington State Service Corps.

Village Community Services is responsible for recruiting the full-time AmeriCorps volunteer who will work as a member of the agency’s Vocational Services team. The volunteer will help market the skills and abilities of people who have disabilities to local employers.

The AmeriCorps service term is 40 hours per week for 10.5 months with start dates of Nov. 1 or Nov. 16, 2008. The volunteer must be between the ages of 18 and 25 and able to pass a Washington state background clearance.

The position is ideal for a recent college graduate looking for a challenging career experience or internship. AmeriCorps volunteer benefits include a $950 monthly living allowance, $4,725 educational award upon completion of service, health insurance, childcare assistance if needed, and student loan forbearance.

United Way of Snohomish County and Volunteers of America Western Washington are on a campaign to inform people about the North Sound 211 Call Center.

Based at the Volunteers of America Western Washington center, North Sound 211 services are provided by VoA, with financial and other types of support from United Way of Snohomish County. United Way provides expertise and leadership in local, state and national funding of this service, including sustained funding to the amount of $100,000 a year.

VoA trained staff will help those in need for food, housing, or maybe even someone to mow the lawn. This service has been offered in the past, but with a 800 number that was sometimes hard to find. The 2-1-1 was launched in February 2006, but has been a well-kept secret. For information call 2-1-1.

Boulton elected to board of Society of American Florists

Arlington business-man David Boulton, president of Flowers by George, has been elected to the board of directors for the Society of American Florists.

A 27-year veteran in the industry, Boulton currently serves on the SAFs retailer’s council and consumer marketing committee. He also served as a member of the association’s technology task force and floral management advisory committee. He served as president, convention chairman and Washington state director of the Northwest Florists Association.

In September 1994, Boulton was named in the prestigious ranks of SAF’s American Academy of Floriculture in recognition to his contributions to the industry.

He graduated from the Elva Mae School of Floral Design in Fullerton, Calif.

“He is a respected member of the floral community who brings considerable experience to the table.”
