ARLINGTON — The tastiest festival in Washington is about to begin in Arlington on the Red Rooster Route. On Saturday, July 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Bryant Blueberry Farm & Nursery opens its farm gates for its annual Blueberry Festival where blueberries are ripe for picking.
Highlights of the day include picking blueberries in a blueberry orchard, exploring the many nursery items and varieties of blueberry plants for sale and enjoying a barbeque of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs available at a great price. Kids will love the many activities available on the farm including pony and hay rides, watching farm ducks wander the farm, feeding and petting goats and having their faces painted by Kimmy from Kimmy’s Closet, 2009 winner of Nickelodeon’s Parent’s Pick for Best Entertainer.
Jamie Flint, owner of Bryant Blueberry Farm and Nursery explained why small, family friendly farms like his are important, “Small farms remind many customers of the farms they visited or worked at in their past. Now these parents and grandparents love to bring the kids to our farm to learn about farming and to show them how fun it can be to pick their own delicious berries. The farms on the Red Rooster Route are all family-owned farms that offer a wide variety of fresh crops and fun for everyone.” Jamie’s wife and co-owner, Leslie Flint, added “Our Blueberry Festival is an outdoor adventure that the whole family can participate in and enjoy.”
This second year of the annual Red Rooster Route will also host a variety of upcoming fall and winter festivals including The Corn Festival during Labor Day weekend Sept. 3-6, The Fall Festival on Oct. 16 and 17 and The Winter Holiday Festival Nov. 19 through Dec. 19. A self-guided tour through the greater Arlington area, the Red Rooster Route is rich with pastoral views and plenty of recreational and u-pick opportunities.
