Kiddies Parade launches Arlington Festival 08
The little guys have the first go down Olympic Avenue Saturday when the Arlington Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary presents the first event in two weeks of fun as part of the Arlington Festival 2008. The Kiddies Parade starts at 2 p.m. with line-up starting at 1 p.m. on Division Street. It ends with a big shebang with clowns and characters and all the kids in costume at Fire Station No. 46 on McCleod Street.
Summer Jam for kids
Youth of all ages and abilities are invited to Village Music and Art’s summer vacation jam sessions featuring live music led by Jon Dalgarn of Out of the Ashes. Bring your own instrument or use those provided by Village Community Services. Jam sessions are every Friday, except the Fourth of July, 1 – 3 p.m. at the Arlington United Church, 338 N.Macleod in Arlington. Mountain Loop opening
Darrington and Granite Falls have planned a big hurrah for the formal opening of the Mountain Loop Highway. While the road opened for use just before winter last year, the communities spent the year planning a celebration for the backwoods mountain highway that brings people to their backyards. Darrington is offering a street fair with local artists, historical information, a salmon bake, music in the park, a baseball tournament and activities for kids all day Saturday, June 28, and in Granite Falls, there’s a 5K run/walk starting at 9 a.m., an arts and crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., barbecue and bike rodeo all day long, and The Great Ball Race at 2 p.m. For information see the Web site at www.mountainloopexperience.com.

golf tournament
The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce postponed its golf tournament due to rain and it’s rescheduled Friday, June 27, at Gleneagle Country Club. Shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Entry fee of $86 includes green fees, golf cart, tee prizes, steak and salmon prime rib dinner and the Great Chamber Raffle. Marysville’s Outdoor Cinema Series
“Popcorn in the Parks” features movies screened in your favorite Marysville neighborhood park every Saturday throughout the summer. This week’s, on Saturday, June 28, will be at Foothills Neighboorhood Park, 7201 58th St. NE, in Marysville. Presented by Marysville Parks and Recreation and sponsored by the Snohomish County – Camano Association of Realtors and Verizon FIOS. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and popcorn. Movies begin at dusk. Singers wanted
Skagit Opera has announced auditions from 11 a.m. to
2 p.m., Saturday, June 28 for experienced adult and teen chorus singers for Verdi’s La Traviata. The auditions will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 415 S. 15th St. in Mount Vernon. The opera will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. Performance dates are Oct. 10, 12, 17 and 19 at McIntyre Hall in Mount Vernon. Rehearsals begin August 17. Rotary announces new grant program for education
The deadline is July 1 to apply to the Marysville Rotary Education Foundation’s new education grant program. The foundation will make grants to groups that want to improve education in the Marysville community.
