SEATTLE — An Arlington man who died in Afghanistan on Sept. 9, 2008, Eichmann A. Strickland is one of 10 names that were added to the Garden of Remembrance Wall at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle.

The son of Ken and Yolanda Strickland, “Eich” was brought home to the Arlington on Sept. 25 last year.

The 10 Washington state residents who died in war last year include Carlo E. Alfonso, Jason M. Bogar, Timothy P. Davis, Jackie L. Larsen, Robert D. Lindenau, Nicholas A. Madrazo, Andrew J. Shields, Benjamin H. Todd and Michael T. Washington.

The new additions to the wall were dedicated on Memorial Day with presentation of wreaths and a reading of the names of those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since Memorial Day 2008.

The Garden of Remembrance, located on the corner of Second Avenue and University Street in downtown Seattle, is a a memorial to more than 8,000 citizens of Washington state who gave their lives in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and post-Vietnam conflicts.

The Garden of Remembrance, originally dedicated on July 4, 1998, is an L-shaped garden along the south and west sides of Benaroya Hall. Excerpts from poems honor veterans who died in our nation’s wars and lines from letters home remind us of the personal connections that each name represents. A reflecting pool honors those missing in action and a fountain honors those who died in peacetime and other national service.

Home of Seattle Symphony, Benaroya Hall fills the city block between Second and Third avenues and Union and University streets, just a couple of blocks south of Pike Place Market, in downtown Seattle . The Garden of Remembrance is easily accessible by public transportation.
