ARLINGTON Arlington Boys and Girls Club selects a boy and girl Youth of the Month every month, and the winners for December are Jake Curtis and Jaina Harris and for January the winners are Raleigh Stahl and Blake Fisher.
Jake Curtis has been participating in club activities for more then five years. Curtis has grown into a very helpful member who has volunteered for summer camp nearly every year and helps out at the club during the school year. He helps run games, answers phones and supervises kids, as well as filling in at any other odd jobs that need to be done.
Curtis has worked hard at giving back to his community through his work at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, said Matt Evans, of the Arlington club. Curtis is currently attending Weston High School in Arlington.
A student at Marysville Middle School, Jaina Harris has been has been a member of the club for three years. She first joined the club through its after-school program.
She would help whenever it seemed that a staff member needed help, Evans said. She now works as one of three junior staff and is learning what it takes to be a staff member at the club. While not at the club, Jaina likes to play volleyball at Marysville Middle School.
Raleigh Stahl joined the Arlington club two years ago for summer camp.
During that time he always showed a positive outlook on life and a desire to help those in need, Evans said.
Stahl has also volunteered during the summer to help younger kids on field trips and to complete odd jobs during the summer. This year he was chosen to be one of the Boys & Girls Club Junior Staff members where he is learning what it takes to be a staff member at the club and how to be a positive influence on kids.
He works hard in helping out the staff members in whatever task is put before him, Evans added. A student at Haller Middle School, one of Raleighs dreams is to work with NASA.
Blake Fisher attends Lakewood Middle School and this is her first year attending the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, but she has already impressed the staff with her willingness to help members out with homework and to help staff with activities.
Blake has a positive personality and a smile on her face every time she walks in the door, Evans said. While not at the club, she likes to go shopping and enjoys reading her favorite book, How to Eat Fried Worms.
