ARLINGTON — Children looking to be part of a Christmas “miracle” this December will soon have a chance to do.

The Smokey Point Community Church will be holding tryouts Sept. 19 for its annual Christmas musical. This year’s performance, titled “Miracle on Main Street,” will require a number of first through eighth grade students to audition.

“Every year we do a different musical and we invite kids from the community to participate,” musical director Tammie Clifford said. “Kids of all different abilities are welcome — no experience is necessary.”

Students will have 10 weeks to practice for their roles, Clifford said.

The musical serves not only as a community event but a fund raiser — proceeds and donations from the show go to KidsDream of Snohomish County. The organization provides programs and services to neglected and abused children within the county.

In addition to refining their acting skills, participating children will learn about the foster care system.

“We encourage them to give up one of their Christmas presents,” Clifford said.

In the past, donated items have included socks, underwear, pajamas.

Between 45-75 children participate in the musical each year, Clifford said.

Students who sign up for “Miracle” will practice for 10 weeks leading up to two performances on Dec. 6.

Practices run from 5-6:15 p.m. each Saturday starting Sept. 19.

Admission to the musical will be free.
