ARLINGTON — Arlington siblings Tekoah and Eddie Holland hit a stroke of good luck on the weekend of the Arlington Fly-In, July 11-12, thanks to the Downtown Arlington Business Association.

Tekoah, 10, won a bike by buying two raffle tickets from DABA, during their fundraiser for the Arlington Food Bank and Kids Kloset. The bike and matching helmet were purchased by DABA with $75 supplied to them by Arlington Physical Therapy, but since it’s a boy’s mountain bike, Tekoah had always intended to win it for her younger brother Eddie, 7.

DABA’s Julie Tate explained that the bike was displayed in several businesses during the weeks prior to the Fly-In and the Street Fair, generating $92 in raffle ticket sales, at $1 per ticket, the proceeds of which are being divided in half between the Arlington Food Bank and Kids Kloset.

“In this economy, that’s not bad,” Tate said. “Still, we’re hoping to make it even bigger and better next year.”

Eddie hadn’t even been told that Tekoah had entered the contest on his behalf until she won. He’s already taken his new bike out for a spin on the track at Post Middle School, and thanked his sister by “giving her cake.”

Tekoah “had a feeling” that she would win the contest, but she experienced a moment of dismay near the end, when she couldn’t find the bike and thought that it had already been won. Ed Holland, father to Tekoah and Eddie, described Tekoah as his “miracle child,” since she’s survived being born with a severe gastrointestinal disorder, and has reportedly had a knack for winning most contests that she’s entered since then.

“The kids were bouncing off the walls when they found out they’d won,” Holland said. “It is a really cool bike.”
