PULLMAN — An Arlington High School to-be senior was among scholarship winners during a recent state competition.

Corinne McClure, daughter of Bob and Wendy McClure of Arlington, was awarded a $200 scholarship during the Washington state Distinguished Young Women program.

McClure was one of 20 high-schoolers to participate in the 2010 program, which took place on Aug. 7 at Washington State University’s Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.

More than $8,000 in college scholarships and awards were shared among the students.

The Distinguished Young Women program, previously known as America’s Junior Miss program, was founded in 1958. Since then, more than 700,000 young women have participated in the program at the local, state and national levels.

McClure took home the preliminary scholarship award during the state event. She would like to attend Harvard University, the University of Chicago, Wheaton or Rice and hopes to study either social sciences, law, Spanish or medicine.

Moses Lake’s Rianne Jones took home the top award, winning a $3,000 scholarship.
