Arlington Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Kristine McDuffy has announced she will present her first annual “State of the District” address and the entire Arlington community is invited.

It will start 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Haller Middle School, 600 E. First St. Refreshments will be provided while McDuffy speaks to important issues facing the district including budget, student achievement and more. For information call the school district at 360-618-6200.

Lakewood School District sets special board meeting

The Lakewood School District Board of Directors will be holding a special board meeting 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 31, in the district’s technology training lab at English Crossing Elementary School.

The agenda for this meeting will include:

n Using an Educational Data Framework to Guide Board Policy & Governance Presentation.

n Elementary Configuration Task Force Update.

n School District Calendar Committee Update.

County seeks input on money for neighborhood stabilization

Snohomish County is seeking input on its plan for using more than $2 million on housing activities. The cash is a portion of more than $28 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to the state Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development to establish and implement the Neighborhood Stabilization Program in the state.

CTED intends to distribute the funds toward home foreclosures due to sub-prime mortgage related loans. The intended beneficiaries of the NSP funds are low- to middle-income households in Snohomish County outside the cities of Bothell and Everett. The county is working on a plan to present to CTED by April 1, and is seeking ideas on priority needs for eligible use of these funds as well as input in its proposed plan.

One of three meetings is scheduled at 1 – 3 p.m., Jan. 28, at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd. in Arlington. A draft plan is also available on the county Web site under the Department of Human Services Division.

Rural cluster north of Lakewood area

The Snohomish County Hearing Examiner has scheduled two days of hearings Jan. 28 and 29 on a proposed rural cluster with 49 lots on a bit more than 155 acres proposed at 52nd Avenue and 192nd Street NW.

The hearing is in the hearing room of the county administration building east, at 300 Rockefeller Ave. in Everett. The application was submitted by Lake Goodwin Investment Properties. For information call the county planning department 425-388-3538.

VCS seeks volunteer directors

Village Community Services is recruiting volunteers to sit on its board of directors. Its perfect candidates passionately believe in the rights, talents, and potential of people with disabilities, and want to work toward their full inclusion in the workforce and community life.

The VCS board of directors takes a leadership role in setting the vision and policies that govern VCS services to people with disabilities; informs the community about the skills and abilities people with disabilities have to offer; advises the agency based on individual expertise and experience; and ensures the financial health of VCS through stewardship, legislative advocacy and friend-raising. The board meets at 6:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of the month.

Founded in 1964, Village Community Services‚ helps people with disabilities who live and work in Snohomish County. The agency’s mission is to support adults with disabilities and other life challenges in achieving their personal potential at home, work and in community life.

North County Fire Fire/EMS reports 2,289 calls in 2008

For the month of December North County Fire/EMS reported 292 calls, four structure fires, 30 fire responses, 65 motor vehicle accidents, 143 medical calls, 22 services calls, two ice rescue and 26 hazardous responses for a total of 2,289 calls for the year 2008.
