ARLINGTON — The Arlington Boys & Girls Club is hosting summer sports camps, while sign-ups are just beginning for fall sports programs on Aug. 19.
This summer the club has hosted soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball and lifetime sports camps.
“We’ve been doing the lifetime sports camp for a while,” said athletic director Kevin Coghill. “It’s a sports-based camp that appeals to kids because it gives them a variety of sports that they can play for their lifetime.”
The Lifetime Sports Camp wrapped up on Aug. 1, after teaching campers the basics in golf, softball, soccer, tennis and more. The Boys & Girls Club is hosting a golf camp from Aug. 12-15, and then the fall season begins.
“We used to hold a basketball camp years ago, and then we started hosting the camp as a county, where all the local clubs bring kids to the Everett location,” said Coghill. “This is our first year bringing the basketball camp back to Arlington, and it’s great because when we hosted the county camp we’d only get seven or eight kids, and this year we had 32 kids sign up, so a lot more Arlington kids are able to play.”
The club hosted a county volleyball camp in the past, but brought that program back to Arlington two years ago.
The fall offers volleyball, Mother Goose Soccer, Soccer Blasters and NFL flag football.
“All of our fall programs are pretty popular,” said Coghill. “Last year we had around 20 volleyball teams, 18 flag football teams and 16 soccer teams.”
