Allen commits to Purdue

Arlington senior Kristen Allen has signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.

A four-year letter winner in girls soccer as well as softball, the Arlington shortstop will play for coach Kim Maher.

A four-year honor roll member, the daughter of Ted and Vicki Allen played summer ball for the Lady Hawks D’Amico in 2008, helping the team to a seventh-place finish at Gold Nationals, according to a press release.

“Kristen is a disciplined hitter who has a confident demeanor at the plate,” Maher said. “She has the ability to hit the long ball while maintaining a high on-base average. Kristen will make an impact on our offensive lineup. Defensively, she can play anywhere in the infield and play that position well.”

Allen is the second senior from the Arlington softball squad with plans to play college softball. Earlier this year, pitcher Christina Rayner signed a letter of intent to play for North Dakota State in Fargo, N.D. The Eagles are 7-1.

Arlington swimmer attends USA Swimming camp

Arlington resident Jennifer Domanowski participated in the 2009 USA Swimming Diversity Select Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Diversity Select Camp is intended to inspire swimmers from ethnically under-represented populations to become leaders in the sport of swimming. While attending the three-day camp program, Domanowski participated in a combination of pool training, motivational and education sessions and team building activities with other camp members.
