ARLINGTON — Drama students will soon have a set of new, theater-style seats in teacher Scott Moberly’s classroom.
The Arlington School Board approved Monday, April 26, a $4,000 donation from the high school drama booster club to go toward the purchase of 32 seats.
“The seating that’s in there — it’s time to go,” Moberly told the School Board. “The boosters have been putting money away for the last couple of years and recently one donor got us a large donation to go toward (the chairs).”
Moberly said the new seats will be similar to those currently in the Byrnes Performing Arts Center, but also include writing surfaces similar to those found in college lecture halls.
The seats are scheduled to be delivered in June and installed over the summer.
The total cost of the seats is approximately $7,000, with additional funds for the purchase coming from the high school’s basic education budget ($1,000), the basic education visual and performing arts budget ($1,000) and the school’s career and technical education budget ($1,000).
