SMOKEY POINT — Shane Werner was riding the bus daily from Arlington to work, transferring in Smokey Point.

“I used to ride the bus to work, but I just got laid off.” So now he is riding the bus to the unemployment office.

He is grateful for the service provided by Community Transit.

Werner was a C&C operator building parts for Boeing. Now he’s using CT to go job hunting, he said.

CT announced recently that weekday southbound trips from Smokey Point to Lynnwood on Community Transit Route 201 now depart from the old Smokey Point Transit Center, just west of the former start point at 174th Street NE and Smokey Point Boulevard. This change gives passengers a sheltered waiting area, but still no public parking.

Route 201 is also one of several routes that will have changes ranging from five to 10 minutes. Its weekend trips start at the Stillaguamish Senior Center and will not serve the Smokey Point Transit Center, according to CT officials. Buses stop at 174th and Smokey Point Boulevard. Route 201 northbound trips will continue to the Stillaguamish Senior Center via the same streets as Routes 200 and 202.

Route 230, between Smokey Point and Arlington, will begin its eastbound trips at the old Smokey Point Transit Center. Community Transit strives to help Puget Sound commuters think transit first.
