In a run-up to their camp at Western Washington University June 23-27, players from the Lakewood football team vied in a 7-on-7 passing tournament at the University of Washington.
There are no linemen or running plays in 7-on-7. The offense consists of a QB, running backs, receivers and tight ends. The defense is made up of linebackers and secondary. Points are awarded for touchdowns and interceptions, with seven points for offensive scores and one point for the defensive maneuver.
Lakewood went 3-3 in the tournament, defeating Elma in the opening round, Lindbergh in game three and Bonney Lake in the sixth game. They suffered close overtime losses to Mariner and North Kitsap.
Sophomore quarterback Justin Lane threw 25 touchdowns and just two interceptions throughout the tournament. Senior wide receiver Jordan Stauffer led in receptions with 11 touchdowns and two picks, while Quentin Baldwin also had six touchdown receptions.
Lakewood will host a tournament July 26 with eight area teams expected to attend.
