MILL CREEK — Stilly Valley’s 11-year-old all-star team literally got something out of each of its players June 29.

In an 8-1 win over Marysville American at Freedom Field in Mill Creek, Stilly Valley earned the right to keep playing.

“The nice thing about tonight is that we have 13 players, and each of them contributed something,” said manager Bob Bergley.

In the spirit of all-around contribution, Stilly Valley used four different pitchers (Trevor Klein, Tyson Human, Nathaniel Raether and Tristan Sheward), who combined to allow just four Marysville hits.

“With our pitch count restrictions the way they are, we were able to pitch well tonight and leave everybody in good enough shape to be able to pitch in our next game,” said Bergley.

Offensively, Stilly scored the winning run in the first inning when Human and Zane Blanken hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the game. Blanken came around to score on Avery Earnheart’s double two batters later to take a 2-0 lead.

The home team, Marysville, came back with a run in the bottom of the second, with Sam Watson singling, stealing a base and eventually scoring on Kristian Furseth’s double.

Furseth scored had two doubles and a walk for Marysville.

“Kristian is a real good hitter,” said Marysville manager Brian Smith. “But we had a lot of contact today, but they were right at people.”

That wasn’t the case for Stilly Valley, who had nine hits in the game, three coming from Earnheart, who also scored a run on Sheward’s two-run blast in the third, making the score 4-1.

“That was his first home run,” he said. “And he got it pretty good. This is deeper than what we’re used to playing in.”

Having lost their opening round games, both teams were trying to avoid getting knocked out of the consolation bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

Arlington lost to South Snohomish 8-2 June 26 while Marysville took home a 34-1 result.

The win moved Stilly Valley on to play Mill Creek July 1.

Also having a big day for Stilly Valley was Human, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. He also pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.

The team consisted of Human, Blanken, Earnheart, Sheward, Klein, Mason Bergley, Raether, Taylor Baker, Jacob Olson, JJ Haldeman, Hunter Wood, Wyatt Sokolis and Casey Turner. Coaches are Dale Blanken and Ted Human.
