ARLINGTON — The annual Veterans Day parade is scheduled to take place Wednesday, Nov. 11, in downtown Arlington.

The parade, organized by American Legion Post 76 of Arlington, will take to the north end of North Olympic Avenue starting at 11 a.m, with the parade line-up beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The color guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1561 will lead off the parade, followed by Post 76, the Arlington High School band, Boy Scout Troop 92, veterans from various wars and conflicts and other youth groups.

Veterans from World War II will ride in vehicles for the parade.

Scout troop 92 will also be conducting a flag retirement ceremony at 3 p.m. at Legion Park, located across the street from Legion Hall.

Following the parade will be a free roast beef dinner with all the trimmings at 1 p.m. at Legion Hall, located at 115 N. Olympic Ave.

Dinner is free for veterans and $5 to all non-veterans.

Two restaurant chains with local branches will be honoring military members with free meals in November.

On Nov. 11, all Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar restaurants in the United States, including the one at 3702 88th St. NE in Marysville, will honor Veterans Day by serving a free meal to any U.S. veteran or active-duty military member. From lunchtime through dinner hours, any guest with proof of current or former U.S. military service will be able to order one of six free entrées.

Golden Corral Family Steaks and Buffet is also paying tribute to the military with its ninth annual Military Appreciation Day, Nov. 16 from 5-9 p.m. Mike Kossak has co-owned the Golden Corral at 1065 State Ave. with his wife Patty for 18 years, and always looks forward to offering current and former service members free dinner buffets with beverages each year.

Current and former service members do not need to show proof of service to receive a free meal during Golden Corral’s Military Appreciation Day.
