Although the results of the Aug. 7 primary election have yet to be certified, early returns have been released.

As of Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 1:11 p.m., Proposition 1 on the ballot for Silvana Fire District 19 has received 215 “yes” votes, or 60.91 percent of the votes counted, and 138 “no” votes, or 39.09 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 353 votes counted.

The governor’s race in the fall appears likely to be between Democrat Jay Inslee with 378,751 primary votes, or 46.77 percent of the votes counted, and Republican Rob McKenna with 347,656 primary votes, or 42.93 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 809,760 primary votes counted.

The two leading candidates in the primary for the U.S. Senate race are Democrat Maria Cantwell with 445,161 votes, or 55.77 percent of the votes counted, and Republican Michael Baumgartner with 241,350 votes, or 30.24 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 798,165 votes counted.

In the primary for the U.S. Representative of Congressional District 2, the two leading candidates are Democrat Rick Larsen with 43,041 votes, or 59.54 percent of the votes counted, and Republican Dan Matthews with 19,500 votes, or 26.98 of the votes counted, out of a total of 72,286 votes counted.

In the primary for state Legislative District 10, the state Senate race is between Republican Barbara Bailey with 10,018 votes, or 50.28 percent of the votes counted, and Democrat Mary Margaret Haugen with 9,908 votes, or 49.72 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 19,926 votes counted.

In the primary for state Representative Position 1 of Legislative District 10, Republican Norman Smith leads Democrat Aaron Simpson by 10,980 to 8,441 votes, or 56.54 percent to 43.46 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 19,421 votes counted.

In the Legislative District 10 Representative Position 2 primary, Democrat Tom Riggs leads Republican Dave Hayes by 9,700 to 9,282 votes, or 51.1 percent to 48.9 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 18,982 votes counted.

In the primary for state Representative Position 1 of Legislative District 38, Democrat John McCoy leads Republican Sam Wilson by 7,613 to 4,831 votes, or 61.18 percent to 38.82 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 12,444 votes counted.

In the Legislative District 38 Representative Position 2 primary, Democrat Mike Sells leads Republican Michael Casey by 7,767 to 4,528 votes, or 63.17 percent to 36.83 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 12,295 votes counted.

In the primary for state Legislative District 39, the state Senate race is between Republican Kirk Pearson with 7,337 votes, or 54.46 percent of the votes counted, and Democrat Scott Olson with 6,135 votes, or 45.54 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 13,472 votes counted.

In the primary for state Representative Position 1 of Legislative District 39, Republican Dan Kristiansen leads Democrat Linda Wright by 7,005 to 6,348 votes, or 52.46 percent to 47.54 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 13,353 votes counted.

In the Legislative District 39 Representative Position 2 primary, the two leading candidates are Democrat Eleanor Walters with 4,069 votes, or 30.71 percent of the votes counted, and Republican Elizabeth Scott with 3,154 votes, or 23.81 percent of the votes counted, with Republican Robert Zimmerman coming in a close third with 2,853 votes, or 21.54 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 13,140 votes counted.

In the primary for state Representative Position 1 of Legislative District 44, the two leading candidates are Democrat Hans Dunshee with 7,863 votes, or 54.02 percent of the votes counted, and Republican Mark Harmsworth with 4,338 votes, or 29.8 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 14,556 votes counted.

In the Legislative District 44 Representative Position 2 primary, Republican Mike Hope leads Democrat Mary McNaughton by 8,182 to 6,391 votes, or 56.14 percent to 43.86 percent of the votes counted, out of a total of 14,573 votes counted.
