ARLINGTON — Authorities believe a vehicle carrying five Snohomish County teenagers was traveling more than twice the speed limit when it crashed, killing a 19-year-old Arlington man on Sunday, Dec. 28.

According to detectives from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department, the 1990s Acura sedan was traveling more than 85 miles per hour heading south on 15th Avenue NE, just north of Arlington.

The speed limit on that stretch of road is 35 miles per hour.

The 19-year-old driver died at the scene after the Acura reportedly went off the road and rolled, ejecting some of its occupants at the 28200 block of the road at about 2 p.m. Sunday.

A second 19-year-old male from Arlington, along with a 17-year-old male passenger from Camano Island were taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The 19-year-old passenger is in serious condition, while the 17-year-old is in critical condition, said Rebecca Hover, public information officer from the sheriff’s office.

Two 15-year-old female passengers, whose city of residence has not been confirmed, were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Names of all five teenagers have not been released. The crash remains under investigation.
