Old Time Fiddlers

Celebration for fire heroes

The Lakewood School District in conjunction with the Marysville Fire District will be honoring the community members who assisted in containing the July 23 fire at Lakewood Elementary School Aug. 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the Lakewood High School Commons and the public is welcome.

1958 Lake Stevens reunion

Lake Steven High School Class of 1958 will celebrate their 50th reunion on Aug. 8 with afternoon local tours and a picnic and on Aug. 9 with a reception and banquet at the Hawthorn Inn. Downtown Marysville’s HomeGrown Festival is now accepting applications for vendors of homegrown or quality handmade items and artwork. The Festival will be Aug. 8 – 9, on Third Street. HomeGrown review

Downtown Marysville’s HomeGrown Festival will be Friday, Aug. 8, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The street festival features arts, crafts and homegrown produce, plants and flowers in booths on Third Street east of State. Hot August car show

Faith Lutheran Church of North Lakewood hosts the Hot August Car Show Saturday, Aug. 9, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to benefit local food banks. Participant car entries are $15 for early registration and $20 the day of the event. Free to onlookers and a free raffle ticket for bringing in non-perishable food donations. Pathways to work

Pioneer picnic

The Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Association wants to remind the community that Pioneer Picnic is on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 20722 67th Ave. NE in Arlington. Taste of Washington

A benefit for Kids’ Kloset in Arlington to provide complete wardrobes for children in need twice a year, A Taste of Washington offers an evening delight, with Washington wines, beers and food provided by local growers, to keep the crowd happy while bidding on elaborate baskets filled goodies in a silent auction from 6 – 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. Evergreen Fair tickets

The Evergreen State Fair has several money-saving options for patrons who want to purchase tickets and carnival wristbands early. Advance tickets discounted: adult to $7; senior citizen tickets are $6; youth tickets are $4, carnival wristbands, valid on weekdays, except Labor Day, beginning at 11 a.m., are $22. Buy tickets at Bartell Drug Stores, Snohomish County QFC Stores, Monroe 76 on Hwy. 2, Monroe Red Barn and the SnoCope Federal Credit Union. Carnival wristbands can be purchased at the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, SnoCope Federal Credit Union, Bartell Drug Stores and at the Fair Pass booth.

Lights of Christmas

Registration is now open for overnight getaway packages and dinner/dessert theater at The Lights of Christmas at Warm Beach Camp at www.warmbeach.com or 360-652-7575 or 800-228-6724. Overnight getaway packages include accommodations in one of Warm Beach Camp’s many holiday-themed lodgings, a hot buffet breakfast and general admission to The Lights of Christmas. Dinner theater tickets also include general admission tickets to be used on another evening. Free Red Cross CPR course

The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold free CPR training at the Lynnwood Convention Center, Saturday, Aug. 16, at 8 and 10 a.m. Call 425-740-2344 or email CPR Saturday@snohomishcounty.redcross.org. Minimum age is 11. Everyone who successfully completes the three-hour course and written exam will be issued a Red Cross CPR certification card. Rediscovery/as if the earth matters

• Nov. 8 — Bill Blake, from the City of Arlington, will discuss why we have a Stormwater tax, and what the plans are, plus a short piece on what you as a home owner can do for Storm Water run off.

• Dec. 13 — Arlington Garden Club members will teach members and residents how to make their own holiday wreaths. This is a very popular workshop.

• Jan. 10 — Michelle Clark, Certified Horticulturist, is a very popular speaker in Pacific Northwest gardening circles. Her topic will be Winter Gardening: Get the jump on Spring.

• Feb. 14 — AGC members Carol & Leroy Jacques will provide pictures and commentary on their trip to gardens in Italy. They previously gave a presentation on Ireland and the photography was wonderful.

• March 14 — Master Gardner Wink Cushman will discuss Ornamental Grasses for your garden.

• April 11 — This workshop is usually held in conjunction with the City of Arlington’s Arbor Day. More information will be posted on our website as this develops.

• May 9 — This will be a special presentation which will have the Arlington Garden Club hosting neighboring Garden Clubs and the Evergreen District. Our speaker will be Marianne Binetti who has traveled the world speaking on garden topics. This meeting may be held in a alternative location due to the popularity of Ms. Binetti. Information and cost will be advertised closer to the date.
