ASD schedules special meetings to plan budget

ARLINGTON — The Arlington School Dictrict’s Board of Directors has set several special meetings along with its regularly scheduled meetings to continue the process of reducing its budget by $3 million – $5 million.

An all-day School Board Work Session is Friday, April 24 at Fire District 1 in Everett.

The board’s regular meeting on April 27 will include a budget report, and a special meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. May 4 at the regular board meeting room at 315 N. French Street.

Recommendations from the district on certificated staffing are due to the Board of Directors by May 4 and district recommendations on classified staffing are due to the Board of Directors by May 15.

“The district makes the recommendations, the board makes the decisions,” said the district’s spokesperson, Misti Gilman, who also clarified the numbers distributed at the School Board Forum on April 14.

The amount of $108,000 is the program’s entire budget, and not just salary, and much of that is paid for by the Air Force, and the $102,000 is the budget for public relations — an essential service for public schools to stay in touch with the public.
