“Anytime you lose half your varsity team, regardless of the reason, you’re not going to be playing to your full potential,” said first-year coach Erik Carlson.
At large invitationals, Lakewood rarely enters athletes in all of the events that they would normally compete in. Nearly every school at the meet has a larger enrollment than the Cougars do, giving other schools an advantage.
The Birger Solberg Invitational in Bellingham brings 20 schools from across the state to compete in high school track and field events.
