ARLINGTON — When Kathleen Shalan and Carlene Braaten decided to relocate the Country Rose in May, after eight years at the Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip, they chose to move to downtown Arlington.
MARBLEMOUNT — Arlington’s Thom McCoy, 61, left his home on Wednesday, Aug. 7, to go hiking in east Skagit County, but he hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
ARLINGTON — Downtown Arlington will be bustling with patriotic activities on Sept. 11, as part of this year’s “Freedom Festival.”
The day’s festivities will kick off with local music in the Legion Park gazebo at 7 a.m., followed by the Sea Cadets raising the flag on the pole next to the gazebo at 8 a.m.
Registration for Operation Homefront’s 5K “Freedom Walk” will also begin at 8 a.m. in Legion Park at 201 Olympic Ave., across from the Les Schwab Tire Center. The walk itself will start from Legion Park at 9:11 a.m.
SILVANA — Although its traditional parade will be taking a break this year, the Silvana Fair will still offer a host of agricultural activities for attendees of all ages.
Silvana’s Viking Hall on Pioneer Highway — State Route 530 — and the adjacent fields will once again serve as the staging grounds for the event, which takes place on the last Saturday of every July.
The 64th annual Silvana Fair will be open to the public starting at 9 a.m. on July 30, with a flag-raising and opening ceremonies following at 9:15 a.m., during which everyone is encouraged to participate. While there won’t be a parade, attending 4-H clubs and Future Farmers of America chapters will be allowed to display their banners before the kick-off of the kids’ games, for attendees aged 16 years and younger.
DARRINGTON — The search remains ongoing for Marysville resident and former Arlington City Council member Daniel Anderson.
Anderson, a 46-year-old Washington State Patrol trooper for 20 years, was off-duty when his spot locator signaled an emergency at 6:15 p.m. on May 15. He’d been part of a group that was biking and snowshoeing on the west side of the mountains, before he went hiking alone east across the Cascade Range from Granite Falls, with Holden Village near Stehekin as his planned destination.

ARLINGTON — The city of Arlington invites the community to the return of its annual Airport Appreciation Day on May 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The EAA Young Eagles Program will provide free airplane rides for children aged 8-17.
ARLINGTON — Community members again are being encouraged to bring their Easter baskets, cameras and smiles to the city of Arlington’s upcoming Easter egg hunt.
The event starts at 11 a.m. on April 23 at the Arlington Municipal Airport, next to Weston High School.

ARLINGTON — Highland Christian School’s Knowledge Bowl team made it to the state championships in their second year as a team this year.
Although the team placed fourth in the written test portion of the state championships in Spokane on March 26, Highland Christian School spokesperson Denise Macklin deemed this performance “an incredible accomplishment” for the two-year-old team.
