ARLINGTON — It’s been a family affair for a local heating system installation and repair business.
After surviving a difficult economic climate this past year, Cozy Heating of Arlington has continued to thrive. The business celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2009, and owners and managers said they’re hoping to continue to meet the needs of their customers.
“Lots of custom builders have stuck with us for years, and now we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel,” said installation manager and future owner Kyle Taylor. “We’ve been very busy.”
The locally operated business, located across from the cemetery at 20221 67th Avenue NE, provides heating and cooling services to business and residential customers throughout the Northwest since 1979.
Cozy offers heat pump installation and repair, radiant and geothermal heating and is Built Green certified, meaning that it adheres to stringent environmental standards.
Cozy Heating was originally a wood stove store until current owner Vince Willett, who at the time owned Elmer’s Oil Heating Co., was brought on as a partner at Cozy.
Willett eventually bought out his partner and has been operating Cozy Heating with his wife, Carina, and family ever since.
All five of the couple’s five children have worked in some capacity for the store, either as installers or as office staff.
“I think people trust family businesses more,” said office manager Andrea Bremner, one of the couple’s four daughters. “We were here in our playpens.”
Taylor, who’s wife is Bremner’s sister, said that communication between the company’s workers and their customers is what has also kept Cozy around for the past three decades.
“We have very loyal customers,” he said.
Taylor added that due to a number of tax credits and incentives, homeowners interested in replacing their heating systems can do so for less than they would expect.
“With this market, so many heating companies are tanking,” Bremner said. “We owe that we’re still open to our customers.”
