This past June, bill number H. Con. Res. 384 was introduced to Congress. This bill proposes a National day of HIV/AIDS testing and education. There is a bizarre stigma attached to HIV/AIDS testing. Just because you choose to educate yourself about disease transmission and learn your status does not mean you are promiscuous and dirty. People remaining ignorant about their status and practicing unsafe sexual practices are a major factor in the rise of HIV/AIDS cases.

As your local Firefighters and Paramedics with North County Fire / EMS, we would like to bring to everyone’s attention the North County Regional Fire Authority Proposition 1, which is to be voted on Aug. 19. This is a critical levy renewal that helps protect and continue our vital, Emergency Medical Services in our great communities.
Ten years ago the cities of Marysville and Arlington divided up the Smokey Point / Lakewood community over the objections of the residents. Today we are still seeing this division being done by the cities’ newspapers. While The Arlington Times will sometimes cover news about Smokey Point, the Times and Marysville Globe seem to have decided that the Lakewood School District is only of interest to those living in Marysville. A large percentage of residents served by the Lakewood School District live within Arlington city.
I found the Arlington Times July 16 article about the immigrants full of contradictions. Rosa said she hasn’t committed a crime, yet she’s here illegally. She only wants a better life for her son, yet after being here for six years, she needed an interpreter. Instead of assimilating themselves into our society, they put an extra burden on us because we have to hire extra teachers to teach their children English, even if they were born here.
It is often difficult for the average voter to determine who is the most qualified to be a judge. The positions are non-partisan so you don’t (and shouldn’t) have party ideology to guide you and judges are limited in what they can say about specific cases. I have found that it is best to rely on people I know and trust who have worked with the candidate and on endorsements by people who have knowledge of his or her performance.
I would like to thank the North County Fire Authority for the outstanding care that I received in May when I had gone to the fire department. Even though I am not in their district I was treated no differently.
Co-directors Lura Smith of Arlington and Len and Donna Derby of Lake Stevens are planning Kayak Girl Scout Community Camp’s 25th year celebration. Many local area Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts attended the all volunteer camp at Lyle McLeod GS camp, near Belfair, Wash., in July.
After reading Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13 in the Herald, I feel upset enough to respond. First of all July 12th, Monroe wants $10 a month from homeowners. Are the homeowners the only ones creating the traffic problems? I don’t think so. If all the rest would stay home, there wouldn’t be a problem.

This vital EMS level of service helps protect and serve the local communities of Bryant, Freeborn, Sunday Lake, Kayak, McKee’s Beach, Lake Ketchum, Grandview, Kackman, Lake Armstrong, Warm Beach and the greater North Snohomish County area.
On Aug. 19, Snohomish County voters will have an opportunity to cast their choice for the next Superior Court Judge, position number 6. Having worked in the Superior court system for 23 years, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand the important role our Superior Court Judges hold.
A question I ask myself lately is how can I consume less and produce more? Sure we can cut back on spending, take less trips in the car, etc.
