ARLINGTON — On April 14, the Arlington High School Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Concert Band, directed by Mr. John Grabowski, will perform their final concert of the season at the Linda M. Byrnes Performing Arts Center, located at 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd. in Arlington, at 7 p.m.  Auditorium doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.

The traditional Senior Recognition portion of the spring concert will bring 26 graduating band seniors to the stage to receive flowers from Grabowski and recognition for their dedication to the Arlington High School band program. This year’s band seniors are Sara Abramowicz, Bradley Boatman, Lindsey Bullene, James Clark, Mario Cochinella, Cara Condon, Alex Hallowell, Sarah Harman, Alexander Howard, Benjamin Huge, Kenneth Krueger, Ryann Lewis, Hayden Love, Marissa Meyrick, Amber Montgomery, Madison Moss, David Murray, Viet Nguyen, Christopher Reece, Nathaniel Ries, Tylar Sallee, Jenna Tisler, Joshua Vaughan, Travis Walbrun, Colton Weils and Jennika Yates.

March and April are busy months in the Arlington High School Band season, with the Mount Pilchuck Music Educators Association festival, the Spring Band Tour and the Spring Band Concert with Senior Recognition night.

On March 23 and 24, AHS once again hosted the MPMEA Senior Level Large Group Band Festival at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center. The two-day high school competition of the MPMEA district was adjudicated by northwest area experts, including a clinic for each group following their performance. Grabowski was the event coordinator and has offered his thanks to all the student and parent volunteers who supported the festival for AHS.

March 31 through April 4 saw 47 students from the Wind Ensemble and On Hold jazz groups travel to Anaheim, Calif., where they attended two music clinics given by professors at California State University Long Beach, performed two concerts at the California Adventure theme park in Anaheim, worked with a Disney music director backstage to record a Disney soundtrack, and then had some fun at Disneyland and the beach. Grabowski was proud of his students as he told chaperones of the compliments he received about them from CSULB and the backstage Disney staff regarding their ability, as well as positive comments from the hotel and airport security about their courteous conduct.

As this year’s concert season comes to a close, watch for upcoming details of the annual jazz-band highlight, the “Swing Into Spring” jazz dessert and dance fundraiser on May 6 and 7, being held at the high school commons, a.k.a. the Easy “G” Jazz Club, as well as the “Jazz on the Green” performance by the AHS On Hold jazz band at Gleneagle Golf Course on June 10.
