ARLINGTON – Six people associated with the Arlington Police Department participated in the recent Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
The six carried the Flame of Hope through Arlington on its way to Tacoma for the Special Olympics Washington State Spring Games Opening Ceremony.
The six are: Sgt. Mike Gilbert, school resource officer Justin Olson, detective Mike Phillips, police services technician Andrea Hill and volunteers Katie Phillips and Kim Casteel.
The torch run helps raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics, which provides year-round sports training and competition for more than 19,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The competition is this weekend at Pacific Lutheran University in south Tacoma.
Events include: gymnastics, basketball, bowling, cross country skiing, cycling, figure skating, flag football, golf, powerlifting, snowboarding, soccer, softball, speedskating, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
