EVERETT — Students from Haller and Post middle schools were among participants in a recent music festival during which they recorded a live CD.

Ten Haller and seven Post students from honor band and choir took part in the Mount Pilchuck Music Educators Honor Band Festival on Jan. 21.

Musicians involved in the event attended two rehearsals before they recorded their performance in the Everett Civic Auditorium.

The Post and Haller students were among an 89-member ensemble and a 139-member choir.

Honor band participants from Haller were:

• Silvia Muro, clarinet

• Katrina Nemes, bassoon

• Spencer Vandewerfhorst, trumpet

• Daniel Gonzales, trombone

• Robert Leonard, tuba

Honor band participants from Post were:

• Rachel Fleming, clarinet

• Katelyn Wallace, clarinet

• Katelynn Byrym, bass clarinet

• Natalie Lavesque, baritone

• Colin Henry, percussion

Honor choir participants from Haller were:

• Tiyani Fernando, Amber Wilbern, Kayla Cundy, Corey Kemper, Ryan Fredericks

Honor choir participants from Post were:

• Tiffany Raden, Emiley Royals

Students were chosen based on their skill and abilities through a point system and were selected to fill the instrumentation needs of the honor band and choirs, said Joe Horsak, band/choral director for Haller Middle School.

The music educator’s association band was conducted by Dr. Steven Morrison and the honor choir was conducted by Dr. Steven Demorest.

The Mount Pilchuck Music region stretches from Stanwood to Darrington and from Monroe to Mill Creek and Everett.

“All of the music teachers and parents were so proud of the kids,” Horsak said. “But the best part was seeing the kids so proud of themselves.”
