MARYSVILLE – Not too many people would argue that many kids spend too much time playing video games.

But unfortunately, not too many people seem to do much about it.

Johnny Morris is.

His businesses across the country are giving away fishing poles.

“He wants them to get off their devices and go fishing,” Michelle Berquist of the Tulalip Cabella’s.

The local store is giving away 200 fishing poles to various nonprofits in the area. Scouts from the five-county Mount Baker Council were at the store to receive the poles Tuesday.

The business also is providing a place for kids to use the poles. June 16-17 a 15-by-15 foot mobile pond will be stocked with rainbow trout for free fishing from 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The pond also will be set up June 30-July 1.

Kids also will be able to have their pictures put on a souvenir magazine cover, receive a fishing book, participate in crafts and obtain a gone fishing sign.

“Every kid needs to learn to fish,” Berquist said is Morris’s philosophy.
