ARLINGTON — Approximately 350 students, parents and attendees are expected to attend a U.S. Air Force Junior ROTC competition at Arlington High School.

On Dec. 12, 10 state high schools will be traveling to Arlington to compete against Arlington High School’s program in a number of events.

Students from Marysville, Snohomish, Everett, Mariner, Burlington-Edison, Oak Harbor, Federal Way, Todd Beamer and Mt. Tahoma high schools are scheduled to attend, said Major Mike Blue, senior aerospace instructor at Arlington High School.

“As you can see this is a huge undertaking and our cadets have spent many hours preparing for competition,” Blue said.

Event categories including Color Guard, Unarmed Drill Team, Armed Drill Team, Inspection for both drill teams, Physical Strength Team, Air Rifle Team, Individual and Dual Armed Exhibition Drill and Drill Down.

Events run from 9 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m., Blue said.

An awards ceremony is scheduled to take place about 30 minutes after the last event.

Arlington High School’s Junior ROTC students are part of the Olympic Division of the Northwest Drill and Rifle Conference, which covers western Washington and northern Oregon.
