MARYSVILLE – In past years, the Spring Showcase for kids in the city’s dance classes were packed with people.
So, this year the city did the shuffle. It put on three recitals at the Opera House Thursday night.
The shows were sold out with a total of more than 500 fans.
The first two young tap groups performed “Step in Time” and “Pineapple Princess.”
The next groups danced tap to “Dig a Little Deeper” and ballet to “Fly a Kite.” Also performing in that show was the Mommy and Me class, which danced to the “Popcorn Song.”
The last two groups danced ballet to “Spoonful of Sugar” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
Andrea Kingsford of the city’s recreation department said there also were to be performances by adult tap, ballet and belly dancing groups.
Will Hill, dad of dancer Jeana, 5, said his daughter has been involved in the city program for two years. He was glad to see the showcase split into three sessions.
“It will spread out the crowd a little; it’s always crowded,” he said.
The city classes are taught by Monica Olason, known as Ms. Mo.
