SMOKEY POINT — The Marysville/Smokey Point IHOP recently played a role in a local child’s wish.

On Nov. 1, the pancake house threw Camano Island resident Devin Rekdal and his family a special breakfast party in association with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Devin, who recently underwent a heart transplant operation, made a wish to have breakfast at IHOP and then get a new puppy.

Steve Terpstra, owner of the locally operated breakfast restaurant, and general manager Carrie Vigg decorated the family’s table for breakfast.

Devin also received IHOP mugs, a hat, a shirt and a personalized name-tag, Terpstra said.

Later that afternoon, Devin and his family returned to show IHOP staff his new puppy, Terpstra said.

“It was hard to tell who was happier — Devin or the puppy,” he said.

The Marysville/Smokey Point IHOP and its guests have donated more than $4,300 in the past year to local causes, such as Northwest Organization for Animal Help, the Children’s Miracle Network and a number of food banks, Terpstra said.

The restaurant, located at 16518 Twin Lakes Ave, Marysville, is currently holding a canned food drive and is collecting cash donations for the Arlington Food Bank.

The drive ends Nov. 23.
