MARYSVILLE — Fans of fresh lavender or local farming will soon be able to check out the purple-flowered plant during the upcoming Lavender Festival.

The event, part of the Arlington and Marysville Red Rooster Route, takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 10 at the Lavender Hills Farm (7508 108th Street NE, Marysville).

The festival offers community members u-cut lavender, live music and local arts and crafts booths, not to mention lavender flavored ice cream, lemonade and apple cider.

“The Lavender Festival is one of our farm’s most popular events,” said Mike McCrorie, owner of the farm. “People enjoy learning about and harvesting their own fresh lavender bouquets by cutting it themselves or purchasing it in our gift shop.”

The Lavender Festival is part of the second annual Red Rooster Route, a self-guided tour of local farms in the Arlington and Marysville areas.

Upcoming festivals and events include Red Rooster Days on July 24-25, the Blue Berry Festival on July 31, the Corn Festival during Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-6, the Fall Festival on Oct. 16-17 and the Winter Festival from Nov. 19 through Dec. 19.

“The farmers on the Red Rooster Route are all local farmers committed to growing and harvesting a rich and diverse medley of crops in the hope that consumers will realize that buying local not only helps preserver family farms, but also preserves the land for future generations,” said Lavender Hills Farm co-owner Carol McCrorie.

Admission to the Lavender Festival is free, but there is a $1 per-car charge for parking.
