MARYSVILLE – Thousands upon thousands of fans lined State Avenue and Third Street for the Marysville Strawberry Festival Grand Parade Saturday.
Floats from around the Northwest, led by the one from Marysville, participated.
The Sweepstakes Award went to the float from Sequim, while the Queen’s Award went to the one from Penticton, Canada. Spirit of the Lake won the President’s Award, while Cashmere took Festival Award honors. The Crowd Pleaser Award went to Wenatchee, while Leavenworth took the Short Cake Award. The Royalty Award went to the float from Olympia. Portland won the Berryville Award. The Marysville float was not eligible for award because it’s the one from the hometown.
Bands from Marysville Getchell and Marysville-Pilchuck high schools marched in the parade. There were also dance and cheer squads from various locations, along with Rising Stars Gymnastics and two horse-riding groups.
The Kiddies Parade and Talent Show rode in shiny cars, as did Mayor Jon Nehring, senior center royalty, grand marshal Harv Jubie and Tulalip Chairwoman Teri Gobin.
There were about 90 total entries.
